17.10.2011: Associate Professor in Modern Chinese History and Society

Job description:

The Institute of Business Communication and Information Studies, Sønderborg, offers a position as Associate Professor in Chinese history and society. The position is available from August 1, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The university offers teaching and research at six campuses situated in Odense, Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, Slagelse, and Copenhagen.

The successful applicant will contribute to the teaching programmes BA and the MA in business, language and culture (Chinese).

The successful applicant will be expected to be fluent in spoken and written Chinese, well-versed in the general linguistic, sociological, and political conditions within China as well as within Greater China. Applicants must document teaching experience of Chinese as a foreign language at university level. Applicants will also have research experience in one of the following areas:

# Politics and history of modern China

  • Society and culture of modern China

Minimum requirements for the position at associate professor level are a Ph.D. in Chinese, a specialization in at least one of the research areas listed above, and a high degree of original scholarly production at international level as well as teaching experience at university level. Candidates should have completed a course in university pedagogy or have acquired the relevant knowledge about teaching at university level in some other way.

The applicant must be able to teach and publish in English and Chinese and is expected to be able to communicate in Danish or to acquire proficiency in Danish as soon as possible.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant?s qualifications, an interview may be applied.

Appointment in this position will also encompass teaching obligations in regard to related degree programmes.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2008 .

If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be engaged on trial for the first 18 months.
